JURY FINDS AGAINST THE DOCTOR FOR MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
(June, 2009) Attorney Ilona Antonyan successfully litigated a medical malpractice case against a local gynecologist, getting a unanimous jury verdict. Clients settled for a confidential amount with Scripps Mercy Chula Vista Hospital. After a week long trial, the jury found against the doctor finding him negligent in failing to state a cause of death on a fetal death certificate. A month long delay in the proper completion of a still born child's death certificate interfered with the parents' ability to begin the grieving process and cremate their baby. The jury awarded damages to parents for their emotional distress.

(Feb. 2009) Attorneys from The Law Office of Ilona Antonyan, located in downtown San Diego successfully represented Avalon RF Inc., in their two-year long breach of contract and trade libel case against Wifi Wireless, Inc, an Oregon Corporation. The sixteen day long trial ended February 10, 2009 when a jury in the San Diego Superior Court found that Wifi Wireless Inc., a publicly traded corporation, breached their contract with Avalon RF in addition to committing trade libel against the locally owned company.
Based out of El Cajon California, Avalon RF Inc., designs state of the art wireless technology for applications by the US Military and the motion picture industry.
The jury deliberated for four days before returning a verdict on all counts in favor of Avalon RF awarding $3.2 million dollars in general damages in addition to finding that punitive damages were warranted.
“This was definitely a long, complicated, and extremely technical dispute, however it was critical to advocate for Avalon in this matter” said Ilona Antonyan, the principal and founder of The Law Office of Ilona Antonyan who was lead counsel at trial. “Avalon RF is a small locally owned company in El Cajon, California which never wavered or lost faith in their position. Now after having their day in Court, the good people of Avalon RF can get back to doing what they do best, developing wireless technology.” This verdict is currently on appeal.
JURY AWARDS $50,000 GENERAL/PUNITIVE DAMAGES IN LIBEL,
INVASION OF PRIVACY & CIVIL CONSPIRACY CASE
(July, 2008) Ilona Antonyan, lead counsel and founder of The Law Office of Ilona Antonyan successfully litigated a ten-day long jury trial to verdict. This case marked the culmination of a legal battle which had been ensuing for years. The Client/Plaintiff had initially been represented by another firm, however they dropped the Plaintiff’s case only days before trial necessitating swift action by The Law Offices of Ilona Antonyan to protect their Client’s case. After amending the complaint and months of developing and reconstructing the case, the Client finally had his day in court. The jury returned a verdict in favor of the Plaintiff on seven causes of action.
Defendants, in their capacity as insurance brokers obtained personal and privileged information about Plaintiff. Using this private information, Defendants printed hundreds of libelous flyers and distributed them throughout the Client’s neighborhood going so far as directly contacting the Client’s employer, church along with other personal and professional acquaintances.
The jury determined that Defendants actions breached a fiduciary duty owed to their Client as well as amounted to an invasion of privacy, negligently and intentionally causing our Client emotional distress. The statements made and distributed were found to be slanderous and libelous. Ms. Antonyan successfully demonstrated that Defendants were engaged in a conspiracy to commit Libel and Slander against her Client. On all seven counts the jury determined that the Defendants acted with malice, oppression, and fraud necessitating an award of punitive damages above and beyond the general damages awarded.
After two days of deliberation, the jury awarded $25,000.00 in general damages and $25,000.00 in punitive damages.
In addition to the general and punitive damages awarded, The Law Office of Ilona Antonyan secured an additional $45,000.00 in attorney’s fees from the Defendants, reimbursing the Client for attorney’s fees and expenses incurred in litigating the case.
